Adhesive Lap Joint
A single-lap bonded joint carries load in shear over the overlap: τ_avg = P/(b·L). The real stress peaks sharply at the two ends of the overlap, so beyond a certain length adding overlap buys little — design to the average with margin, and keep adherends thin and stiff.
