Panel Buckling

A thin panel in compression buckles long before it yields: σcr = k·π²E / (12(1−ν²)) · (t/b)². Everything hinges on the thickness-to-width ratio — halve b and you quadruple the buckling stress.

Elastic buckling. If σcr comes out above the material yield, buckling is not the limit — plasticity is, and you need a plasticity-corrected check.
